Not jumping the Ebay ship to float with Amazon

Ugh!  I listen to podcasts, watch YouTube videos, and read blogs posted by other Ebay sellers.  It seems like most of my favorite sellers are jumping out of Ebay and over to selling on Amazon.

Once upon a time I would happily list while listening via the internet, to other sellers discuss the Ebay ups and downs.  Now I am now annoyed by the same sellers hashing and rehashing their favorite Amazon apps and rankings.  Boring. Boring. Boring.

I stopped selling on Amazon about 2 years ago.  It didn't/doesn't interest me.  Yes, I made money.  Yes, I did FBA.  Yes, I completely understand how to sell on Amazon.

I like finding the one of a kind items.  The items with some history.  Items that you can learn something new with and kick some butt at Trivial Pursuit with.  Items that bring back memories for me and eventually for someone else.  Amazon sellers don't discuss what they buy because they are scared everyone else will try to sell it too.   I get it, but it makes them sound very shady when they discuss Amazon "buys".

Once upon a time I would happily listen to other Ebay sellers discuss what to look for about obscure objects like bottle openers - their histories, the collectible ones, the common kinds.  Bottle openers?? Who would spend big money on those??  Really?? Who knew??  I didn't.   It was interesting to learn about different items that you don't see very often and I normally wouldn't look at for resale.    Now I listen to the same sellers drone on about how to collect data and trends on items "that shall not be named."

I get it.  A few Ebay sellers have made money on Amazon and are excited to talk about it.  But the grass is not always greener on the other side.  I heard one so called new Amazon "expert" seller say the secret to their new found success on Amazon is diversity, and having lots of different types of items for sale and not to have all your eggs in one basket.  Really?  Really?  Is that not the secret to selling on Ebay too?

I'm not against selling on Amazon but please don't call yourself an Ebay seller, get me to look forward to rejoicing in your Ebay buys and business, and then babble endlessly on about Amazon in your videos.  It's annoying.  I'm in the process of flushing out my subscriptions to various "Ebay" sellers who have jumped ship.  If you know of any good Ebay blogs, YouTubers and such, please let me know.

And yes, I have annoyed myself just by posting this post about Amazon too.  :p

  1. I feel the same way. I get why people do sell on Amazon but I do eBay because I enjoy the thrill, the research on an obscure item, the fun. Amazon would suck all the fun out of it for me, no thanks. I have a blog but am starting an eBay blog in January. I promise there will be no amazon posts:)

  2. I love ebay and do a little bit of selling on Amazon as Merchant Fulfilled. I do think, however, that depending on what items you pick up, Amazon some times might work out better. I love that it's so easy to list. I've actually just signed up with Amazon FBA as I've learned/realized that some of the stuff I sell on ebay, I can just send in to Amazon and clear out a bit of my inventory. I think both platforms are great. Sometimes it's just about a way to maximize your income.

  3. I really loved this post. I'm all about finding a happy medium. I also don't do much Amazon reading (although I do more on Amazon than eBay) but I much prefer to read about eBay...Amazon is kinda run of the mill stuff :D

  4. I agree. I much prefer walking through thrift stores searching for treasures than going to a big box store to find some shampoo on clearance that I can sell on Amazon. I hate shopping at big box stores even for my own needs; I certainly don't want to have that be my work place.
